Top 7 PR Disasters of 2011

It's almost the end of the year which undoubtedly calls for countdowns. Top 100 songs of the year, top movies of the year, and the countdown of the last few seconds of 2011. The year 2011 was also home to many PR disasters, 7 of which are highlighted in an article by E-releases.
  1. Netflix changes and then changes back. Netflix decided a change was necessary and splits into 2 companies and nearly doubles the cost of a subscription. After much fuss about this, "Qwikster" is done away with and prices come back down. Still, many people said "see ya later" to Netflix because of all that.
  2. Firing a CEO via phone. Yahoo fired their CEO over the phone- how immature. It was necessary, but over the phone? I guess he's lucky it wasn't via text!
  3. Penn State scandal. Need I say more? New details continue to emerge about the scandal that resulted in the firing of PSU president and football coach. It is going to take a long, long time for PSU's football program to recover from the damage done.
  4. Bank of America fees. BoA announced a new $5 monthly fee for debit card users because of increased costs, and assured their clients that other banks would follow suit. The response was so negative that they did away with the fee all together.
  5. Rick Perry at the debate. Rick Perry's Presidential campaign was basically over before it even started thanks to his loss of words at the debate. "I will tell you, it's three agencies of government that are gone when I get there- commerce, education, and the, um, what's the third one there...?" Major oops!
  6. MORE Facebook changes. Facebook reinvented itself once again, perhaps to keep up with Google+. Users continually expressed their dislike of the updates, as they usually do with every update.
  7. Obama is like Hitler? HUH? Hank Williams Jr. comment linking President Obama to Hitler cost Williams his spot as the Monday Night Football theme song writer and performer.
